*** ‘Fallin Stars’ —> Release Date MARCH 5th 2022!***
I wrote Fallin Stars back in 2015 after watching the movie ‘La Bamba’ staring Lou Diamond Phillips as he played the role of Ritchie Valens.
The ending of the film Buddy Holly Turned to Valens and says a line that set off the immediate inspiration behind ‘Fallin Stars’.
Holly says to a nervous Valens as they were about to take off in that infamous airplane, “Hey Richie relax man everything is cool, Besides, The sky belongs to the stars right?”
It only took that night from start to finish to complete the song, the words just spewed right out.
So, Whats ‘Fallin Stars’ about?
Well, ‘Fallin Stars’ is about some of my biggest influences in music who all lost there life’s due to an airplane accident.
In the beginning of the song it starts off by telling you since 59 there was no more, but the sounds of an empty dance hall floor, No footsteps could be heard, No CRICKETS played (Referring to Buddy Holly and the crickets), it then goes on to mention Richie Valens & The Big Bopper ( JP Richardson)
The next verse mentions a lady named Virginia, Who is Virginia you may ask? Well, here’s the twist.
I love the way in some songs lyricists play words, be it puns, rhetorical or metaphorical i just find it adds so much more mystery to a story/song. so i decided to use the nicknames of artists rather then there real/stage names. Virginia is actually Patsy Cline. The lyric reads “Virgina left in 63, 90 miles from Nashville above Tennessee” That’s all correct as her plane went down in Camden TN which is approx 90 miles from Nashville. The lyric continues “When its your time to go, Guess its time to go” Those were Patsy Cline’s last words she said to her manager as he begged her not to fly in the poor weather conditions. the Lyric then states another name you all may be familiar with, “Gentleman Jim” (Jim Reeves)
The next verse includes names such as “JJ” (Jim Croce) and “Dutch” (John Denver)
I recorded a little demo at home and that’s where it has stayed for most of its life, I would play it at selected venues where i felt it fit and be heard.
It’s been in the pipeline to record a long long time, Ever since my very first trip to the United States back in 2016 where i got to sing ‘Fallin Stars’ on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee!
Fun fact the woman who escorted me on the stage knew Patsy Cline well and stared to cry when i sang Fallin Stars, She was the straw that broke the camels back because when she started to cry i started to cry and from there it became a domino effect for everyone there.
imagine, Signing your very first autograph in Nashville after singing your own song! It was a dream way beyond my wildest expectations.
Little did i know at the time how far this song would take me and how much it would mean to me after all these years not to mention the confidence it gave me in life.
The Music Video
The video for “Fallin Stars” is quite personal, like the song i expressed my inner love for country music, and if theirs one thing i took from my opry experience it is without a doubt country artists who perform on the opry are a family with open loving arms who would welcome any stranger with the most respect and love only a mother could show. It is of no wonder why the opry is what it is today and that being said that’s why i decided to use amateur footage of myself on the opry singing fallin stars.
For those who know me I’m a Texan at heart, even though i was born in Ireland. I just fell in love with Texas the second i got there. One of my favorite places to visit while in Austin is the Broken Spoke!
Commonly known as Honky Tonk Heven and in it’s own right!
I used footage from my time at the Broken Spoke as it holds a deer place in my heart, Especially after the recent passing of James White the proprietor who i was so fortunate enough to meet in person on occasional visits. James was to the point and i admired and respected everything he said.
The rest of the footage includes, Buddy Hollys final resting place in Lubbock Texas, Patsy Cline’s memorial at Camden Tennessee, John Denver’s resting place at the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. Other footage includes my visit to the Buck Jackson arena and the ghost town of Nelson in the Nevada desert.
Looking forward for you all to hear my new single ‘Fallin Stars’ off the forthcoming album this weekend, A song that i hope will define me as who i really am. I’d love to be remembered by this one song as it’s the most sentimental.
Funding,
We are all aware of the restrictions that took place during the Covid-19 pandemic. I decided it would be a great time to turn over a new page and start focusing in on my songwriting. A close friend of mine who i met at one of my shows a few years back encouraged me to start a go-fund me. Due to the amazing support i received off the Go-Fund me page i was able to go record 2 of 12 songs i wish to record. It is a weight lifted off my shoulders being able to express my words through music. I find it difficult to express what i want or need tho through conversation it seems the only way for me to truly express myself is through music.
If you would like to Donate to my GO-FUND-ME campaign i’d be so great full! and theirs some great incentives to donate also! check out the link to my go fund me here —> https://gofund.me/b36cff61
